CO2 vs. Erbium Resurfacing

Fractional CO2 Laser

The gold standard for significant skin laxity and deeper wrinkles. Delivers columns of heat energy that stimulate collagen remodeling deep in the dermis. Requires 5–7 days of recovery. Best for moderate-to-severe periocular aging.

Erbium:YAG Laser

A gentler option for mild-to-moderate wrinkles and superficial sun damage. Less heat, faster healing (3–5 days). Ideal for patients with lighter skin tones or those needing a shorter recovery window. Can be repeated for cumulative improvement.

Conditions That Respond Well to Laser Resurfacing

Crow's Feet

Fine lines radiating from the outer corners of the eyes respond dramatically to CO2 resurfacing — often better than surgery alone.

Lower Eyelid Wrinkles

The crinkled skin of the lower lid that creates a tired appearance can be dramatically smoothed with laser resurfacing.

Sun Damage & Pigmentation

Sunspots, uneven tone, and actinic keratoses around the eyes are effectively addressed with laser treatment.

Upper Lip Lines

Vertical lines above the lip — often treated in the same session — show excellent improvement with CO2 resurfacing.

Post-Surgical Refinement

Laser resurfacing is often performed 3–6 months after blepharoplasty to further refine results and reduce residual fine lines.

Skin Texture

Enlarged pores, rough texture, and acne scarring near the periocular area benefit from the collagen-stimulating effects of laser energy.

What to Expect After Treatment

Days 1–3

Redness, swelling, weeping. Keep skin moist with petrolatum.

Days 4–7

Peeling and flaking. Skin begins to re-epithelialize.

Week 2

Pink, healed skin. Mineral makeup can be applied. SPF is essential.

Months 3–6

Collagen continues to remodel. Final results fully apparent.
