Clinical trials are carefully designed research studies that evaluate the safety and effectiveness of new medical treatments, devices, or diagnostic procedures. Every FDA-approved treatment you receive today exists because patients participated in clinical trials.
At Hill Country Eye Center, we partner with pharmaceutical companies, device manufacturers, and academic institutions to offer our patients early access to promising therapies. All studies are conducted under strict ethical guidelines with participant safety as the top priority.

Our Current Clinical Focus Areas
Glaucoma Research
We enroll patients in studies evaluating new IOP-lowering medications, laser technologies, and minimally invasive surgical devices. Our glaucoma specialists are deeply involved in advancing the standard of care.
Dry Eye Disease
We participate in trials testing novel anti-inflammatory drops, thermal pulsation devices, and combination therapies for meibomian gland dysfunction and aqueous-deficient dry eye.
Macular Degeneration
Clinical studies evaluating new pharmacological and delivery approaches for slowing or reversing the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Corneal Conditions
Research into new surgical techniques, cross-linking protocols, and contact lens therapies for keratoconus and other corneal irregularities.

Trifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL) Study
Evaluating a new investigational multifocal (Trifocal) IOL designed to improve full-range vision — near, intermediate, and far — in patients undergoing cataract surgery.
Bausch + Lomb
Investigational LASIK Laser Study
Seeking nearsighted patients to participate in a clinical research study evaluating an investigational excimer laser used in LASIK eye surgery. Candidates must have a stable myopic prescription.
Kala Pharmaceuticals
Kala Dry Eye Study
Evaluated the safety and effectiveness of an investigational eye drop for the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. This study is now closed to enrollment.
Visus Therapeutics
Presbyopia Eye Drop Study
Evaluated an investigational eye drop for presbyopia. This study is now closed to enrollment. Contact our office to inquire about future presbyopia research.

Initial Screening Appointment
Our research coordinator will review your medical and ocular history against current study eligibility criteria to identify any studies you may qualify for.
Informed Consent
We'll walk you through every aspect of the study — procedures, visits, potential risks and benefits, and your right to withdraw at any time without affecting your regular care.
Enrollment & Baseline Visit
Once enrolled, you'll complete a baseline examination. All study-related exams and treatments are provided at no charge throughout your participation.
