What Is a Cataract?

A cataract is a painless, progressive clouding of your eye's natural lens. As it develops, light is blocked from passing through properly — causing blurred vision, light sensitivity, and loss of color contrast.

Most cataracts are age-related, but they can also develop from eye injury, certain medications (like steroids), diabetes, or UV exposure. Left untreated, they can lead to blindness.

Cataract Procedures We Offer

Cataract Surgery

The most commonly performed surgery in the US. We remove the cloudy lens and replace it with a clear artificial IOL. Over 90% of patients achieve dramatically improved vision.

Laser Cataract Surgery

Laser-assisted cataract surgery offers greater precision for incisions and lens fragmentation, reducing the energy needed inside the eye for improved outcomes.

Lens Implants (IOLs)

Modern intraocular lenses can correct for distance, intermediate, near, and even astigmatism. We offer standard, toric, and premium multifocal lens options.

Relaxing Incisions (LRIs)

Limbal relaxing incisions are micro-cuts made at the edge of the cornea to reduce astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery — often eliminating the need for toric lenses.

Posterior Capsulotomy

After cataract surgery, the lens capsule can cloud over time (secondary cataract). A quick, painless YAG laser procedure restores clarity in minutes.

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)

For patients who are poor LASIK candidates, RLE replaces the natural lens before a cataract forms — providing clear distance and near vision with reduced dependence on glasses.
